Ahead of the release of The Rubber Teeth Talk
performing 3 songs in studio and interview with Julie Slater
The Brooklyn-based indie-pop duo Daisy the Great returned to The SoCal Sound for their second in-studio session ahead of their newest release The Rubber Teeth Talk. The duo – Kelley and Mina – sat down with Middays host, and SoCal Sound Music Director, Julie Slater to talk about the creative journey behind the new record and perform 3 songs acoustically in our studio.

Daisy the Great formed while both Kelley Dugan and Mina Walker were in acting school at Tisch School of Arts, at NYU. Initially they were working on a project together that was part of a sketch class and didn’t want to write a sketch, so they wrote a song instead, and the band just started from there.
The Rubber Teeth Talk marks the bands third album, and continues with the same hallmarks for Daisy the Great: lush dream like harmonies, heavy guitars, with witty sarcastic punk rock voices. Written entirely by the band with contributions from their longtime bandmates and produced by Catherine Marks, the album reflects years of growth, sonic experimentation, and lyrical introspection. The album’s title comes from a lyric in the track “Dream Song,” and like much of their music, invites the listener into a surreal, personal world filled with vulnerability and imagination. Going further in depth about the album during the interview with Julie Slater, Kelley describes the inspiration for the album title as “There’s chatter in your head and maybe that's leading you to feel imposter syndrome or insecurity and then you have to kind of carve through that and then the carving through is the finding yourself through the record”.
Daisy the Great performed 3 songs live in studio as an exclusive acoustic performance, joined by the bands guitarist Bernardo Ochoa:
After performing at The SoCal Sound, the band performed at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles to a packed house!
