ADVANCED MUSIC HISTORY Cheat Sheet for June 1

Born:

ALANIS MORISSETTE
BRANDI CARLILE
MIKE JOYCE of The Smiths
RON WOOD of Jeff Beck Group/Faces/The Rolling Stones
SIMON GALLUP of The Cure

This happened:

In 1964, The Rolling Stones were met by over 500 fans as they arrived in NYC for their first US tour. The first gig took place four days later in San Bernardino, California.

In 1967, David Bowie released his self-titled debut album.

In 1967, The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was released in the US (according to the Beatles official website, though some sources say it came out here on June 2). Sgt. Pepper’s went on to win four Grammys, including being the first rock album to win Album Of The Year. Rolling Stone ranked it as the greatest album ever, and it’s one of the best-selling albums ever, with more than 32 million copies sold worldwide.

How do you know Joe?

How do you know Joe?

It occurred to me that the Eagles may not have been the way you were first introduced to Joe. Maybe you “met” him in 1969 with the James Gang. Maybe you got hooked in 1973 with “Rocky Mountain Way”, from the Barnstorm album,“The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get”. Maybe you heard his iconic, “Life’s Been Good” on the “FM” movie soundtrack in 1978 (which also had the Eagles’ “Life in the Fast Lane”) which sent you speeding up the 5, in your Maserati at 185, to his album “But Seriously, Folks...”

However you know Joe, catch up with him this Saturday, hosting a 2-Hr show from 6-8 PM, right here at 885FM.org, on the airwaves at 88.5 FM and your favorite streaming apps!

And if you missed last week’s show:
